Trust Issues?

Trust. How do you trust someone else in a world where you can't even trust yourself?

13:17 "Trust your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you."

I have been both a leader of others and been lead by others. Of the leaders I have had some would be classified as great leaders. Some as anything but. Some were for me and some seemed to be against me. Some I enjoyed and some I endured.
Earlier in Hebrews we read about the discipline of God and how good parents discipline their children. We don't like to be disciplined. I didn't always like my parents love and my children have told me they hate me in the "heat of battle". I have told other parents you aren't loving your children if you aren't willing to be temporarily hated by them for their own good.
To submit to leadership is tough. We fiercely want our own way. We demonize anyone who leads us where we do not want to go.
Think about this though - If someone truly loves us wouldn't we be fools not to follow their lead even if we don't like or understand the direction we are headed in?
Think about this - If Jesus was my boss would I like Him?
Last week at vespers we sang "Just When I Need Him Most". As I considered the words while we were signing I realized they were lies. The person who wrote this song seemed to nothing about the journey of following and trusting. He does not show up every time I feel I need Him. He does not answer audibly in the way I feel He should every time I call out to Him. Often His answer in the storm is silence because the storm is exactly what He wants me in.
The journey of trust is no walk in the park. You take any true follower in the Bible you want and their life was marked by troubles and silence. A good parent does not handle all their children's problems for them. A good parent does not jump every time their children ask them to. Just when I need Him He sometimes sits in silence letting me stretch and struggle and grow so I can learn that He is there even in the silence, especially in the silence.
So, if you know those in leadership over you love God and love you stop questioning everything they do and throwing a tantrum when things don't go as you think they should. They may even be wrong but God is over us all and their mistake may be a journey you need.
Trust Him even when it seems you shouldn't, especially when it seems you shouldn't. Soon the sea will part and you will feel like a fool for doubting Him. Trust - Today...
