I've learned that a worrier never has peace. For a long time I tried to cure worry by removing the issues the worrier was worrying about. It never worked. As soon as one worry was removed the worry got transferred to something new and the cycle started all over again. The focus of the worry changed but the worry itself always remained. I finally realized that worry is not about a specific thing. Worry is a state of mind.
What is my point? There is an opposite st...ate of mind to worry. In religious talk we call it faith. The byproduct of faith is peace or the absence of worry. Like worry it is a state of mind that can't be altered by circumstance.
A worrier thinks it will never end well. A person of faith knows it ultimately will end well.
Abel offered a lamb on his altar. Much more than an act of sacrifice or even worship it was an act of faith. Faith that someday the Seed (Jesus) would come and die in our place to reverse the entire curse of sin which brought with it worry, fear, shame, and death. Noah offered lambs. Abraham offered lambs. Down through time the people of faith have been offering lambs as a statement of faith.
Then Jesus came, the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the whole world. His death cancelled our death sentence and His resurrection justified the faith of every believing person since the dawn of the earth. There have been many great rescue stories in human history. The picture at the Dachau concentration camp of the prisoners on the day the Allied forces set them free is a picture forever etched in my memory. The looks on their faces is priceless.
When those who always believed the day of rescue would come it does not come as a surprise but as a vindication. "I knew it!!! I knew you would come!!!"
Romans 5:1 "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God."
See when we believe He will come the peace starts now. It is the antidote to worry. Just as worry is relentless the peace faith produces is also relentless. Every time we fail and worry attempts to raise it's ugly head faith causes grace to rise instead. There is no failure great enough to cancel what Jesus has already done and what He has already done is proof that He isn't done yet.
"Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in Me. In my Father's house are many rooms. I go to prepare a place for you and if I go and prepare a place for you I will come again and receive you to Myself so that where I Am you may be also" - Jesus
Abel's faith was justified at Calvary. Ours will be justified when He returns but the peace and grace are already here. Do you believe this?
See you tomorrow
