1:7 "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him."
There is certainly a legal component to the death of Jesus. In order to eradicate sin from the universe and allow sinners to live He had to do it. However, and don't ever miss this, that was not the main reason Jesus allowed Himself to die. It is not the main reason His Father watched without intervening to save His Son. In this second passage from Ephesians we again are told that everything heaven has done for us was "His good pleasure". We are also told that "He purposed it in Himself".
Here's the thing: The main purpose in the spilled blood of Jesus was to send the message throughout the watching universe that our blood is more precious to Him than His own. He purposed before He ever created us that this was the way He would get that message out. The accusations against God are that He isn't love. Jesus set the record straight.
What most people do not understand is that earth is the theatre of His grace and an entire universe where exist angels not much different from us are watching. God and His character were thrown into question and disrepute long before the human race existed. God for the sake of His creation purposed in His heart to leave no doubt about His feelings for all of His creation. The record needed to be set straight so that once again peace and harmony could be restored throughout His vast creation.
Make no mistake about it. No matter what the confusing claims of others, of religions, or of the voices in your own head there is only one Truth. The Truth is Jesus and He demonstrated that He and His Father care more about you and I than about Themselves. It's written in blood.
