Get Armored Up!

Ephesians 6:14 "Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak."
Are you ready?
Put this armor on and you become invincible. What's remarkable though is that David the shepherd boy when facing Goliath took Saul's armor off. Perhaps this armor spoken of here is not quite the typical armor Roman soldiers were known to wear. Let's check it out up close:
Belt of Truth
Breastplate of Righteousness
Shoes - Gospel of Peace
Shield of Faith
Helmet of Salvation
Sword of the Spirit
That's 6 pieces... hmm... seems something might be missing... The Bible always clusters things in perfect groups of 7. We'll come back to that. First watch this:
Truth: I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life

Righteousness: Abraham believed (in Jesus) and it was counted to him as righteousness.

Gospel of Peace: He (Jesus) shall be called Wonderful Counselor... Prince of Peace... How lovely are the feet of him who brings Good News (Jesus).

Faith: faith in Christ, faith in Jesus, faith in the Lord Jesus, faith in Christ Jesus. In Revelation God's people are described as having the faith OF Jesus.

Salvation: You shall call His name Jesus because He will save His people from their sins... You alone are my Rock and my Salvation.

Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God: In the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God and the Word was God. All things were made through Him and without Him nothing was made that was made... The Word (Jesus) became flesh and dwelt among us...
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, sweetest name I know...
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
There's just something about that name
Master, Savior, Jesus
Like the fragrance after the rain
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
Let all heaven and earth proclaim
Kings and kingdoms shall all pass away
But there's something about that name.
But again that's only 6. Where and what is the missing 7th piece of the armor?
Jesus is the Truth, He alone is our righteousness. What He is doing, has done, and will do is the Good News. He is the Good News that makes peace between us and heaven possible. He has faith in us, our faith is in Him and He will give us His unalterable faith. He is our Saviour/Healer. He is not just going to forgive our sins but save us from the very power and presence of sin in our lives. He is the Word of God cutting through every lie and fighting off every enemy.
It's all Jesus but where and what is the 7th piece? You'll find it in verse 18. The best was saved until last. Prayer. Not just any prayer though: Unceasing, persevering prayer. I only know One who prays like that. Hebrews declares that in heaven right now (while Satan continually hurls his accusing darts, telling God we are hopeless), Jesus stands with His pierced hands and feet and side as the evidence that we are not hopeless. Those marks of His sacrifice for us are a perpetual witness to the fact Satan is a defeated liar.
Hebrews 7:25 puts it beautifully - Jesus lives to pray for us.
You might ask "How can prayer be a piece of armor? Wasn't it the shout that took down the walls of Jericho. Call out to Him. He is calling out to you.

Jesus. He is our Armor. No one more is needed. No one else will do.
