21:37 As Paul was about
to be brought into the barracks, he said to the commander, “May I say something
to you?” And he said, “Do you know Greek? 38 Then you are not the Egyptian who
some time ago stirred up a revolt and led the four thousand men of the Assassins
out into the wilderness?” 39 But Paul said, “I am a Jew of Tarsus in Cilicia, a
citizen of no insignificant city; and I beg you, allow me to speak to the
people.”
The Roman commander has no idea who Paul is. He thought he
was an Egyptian rebel. Here's a man with power and influence who lacks
knowledge.
Last night the entire political establishment on both sides
with few exceptions believed Hillary Clinton would be the next president. They
were people of influence who lacked knowledge. I'm not sure there has ever been
a time in history like this when there are so many who think they know so much
yet really don't. We have 'experts' in every imaginable field, a title that in
itself says far more about our arrogance than our knowledge base.
Now picture the scene: Paul was caught in the midst of an
angry mob. The Roman commander immediately sent troops to try and restore
order. Paul was grabbed by them and pulled away from the fury. They didn't know
who they had in their possession, they just knew he was the lightning rod
fueling the fury.
Here is the point: It was not until the two men were alone
and things were quiet enough to communicate that information began to flow.
Here in these two verses we discover the commander thought he had an Egyptian
rebel in his custody when actually he was a Cilician Jew, a man who spoke Greek
just like he did.
Knowledge is not found in the frenzy of the crowd. Knowledge
is not discovered in the noise of group think. If you really want knowledge
pull back from the crowd. Get alone with the Man. Talk to Him. Listen to what
He has to say. Tune out the 'experts', shut off the endless stream of competing
voices. There is truth. It does exist. It can be found but you have to be
willing to position yourself where you can see and hear and process.
We live in a relentlessly noisy world. If you want to find a
quiet place to talk and listen you must carve it out. Put the noise away.
Discover the truth. It defies and exceeds everything the 'experts' are saying.
And for those not sure about what to think about last night's
election never forget the truth:
"For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to
us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace."
